What If You Just Don’t Like Exercise?

Hi Reader

Let’s be honest—some women don’t like exercise. There... I've said it.

In my decades of coaching women, I have encountered many women who DO NOT LIKE EXERCISE!

So, this got me thinking... I want to help you take one small step toward maybe not hating exercise quite so much.

Maybe you’ve never found it enjoyable. Perhaps it feels like a chore. Maybe past experiences made you feel like you weren’t “good” at it. Or maybe it feels like one more thing on your never-ending to-do list.

But here’s the thing… movement isn’t punishment, and it doesn’t have to be miserable.

Why Some Women Struggle to Enjoy Exercise:

It Feels Like a “Should” Rather Than a Choice – When we think of exercise as something we have to do rather than want to do, it’s easy to resist it.
Bad Experiences from the Past – Maybe PE class was a nightmare, or you tried a program that felt too intense or overwhelming.
All-or-Nothing Thinking – If you believe exercise only “counts” if it’s an hour-long sweat session, it’s easy to feel discouraged.
You Haven’t Found the Right Fit – Not all movement is created equal! If you hate running or gym workouts, that doesn’t mean you hate moving—you just haven’t found what works for you.

How to Shift Your Mindset & Actually Enjoy Movement:

Forget “Exercise”—Think “Movement” Instead – Walking, dancing in the kitchen, stretching, lifting groceries—it all counts. Move in ways that feel good.
Start Small – 5-10 minutes of movement can change how you feel. Focus on how you feel afterward rather than forcing yourself through an hour-long session you hate.
Make It Social – Join a class, walk with a friend, or find an accountability partner. Movement is more fun when you’re not doing it alone.
Tie It to Something You Love – Listen to a podcast while walking, watch your favorite show while on a stationary bike, or do yoga outdoors for fresh air and peace.
Focus on What You Gain, Not What You Lose – Instead of thinking, “I need to burn calories,” think, “This gives me energy, confidence, and strength.”

You don’t have to love exercise—but when you find ways to enjoy movement, you’ll start to crave it more than you resist it.

That’s precisely what we focus on in my Midlife Happens program: making exercise simple, doable, and individualised for you.
